ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Barbara Noiret
Artist

Bio: Barbara Noiret is a French contemporary artist. Born in 1976 she works and resides in Paris. Barbara is represented by The Frédéric Giroux Gallery in Paris, and will have there a solo show in may 2009.

Barbara produces installations in situ ; It’s always with the spirit of the places that she negotiates. She absorbs, measures the density, the lines, the angles, locates what worries her and then proceeds according to the cases, by creating accumulations or projection. She analyses and investigates volumes according to their nature.

She has worked on many exhibition projects and stayed in residency in different art centers in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, Turkey and in French and Spanish museums. The French "Fonds National d’art contemporain" acquired two of her photographs realised at the Domaine de Chamarande's Art Centre.

In March 2009, she will be taking part in a group show at the Olivari-Veys Gallery in Brussels and will have a solo show in the Museum of the assistance public-hospitals of bets, in Paris. She will also start a new art residency of 4 month at Eurogroup, a consulting company, located in la Défense, in Paris. ...and then in July, she will exhibit the work realised for this occasion.

Morning routine I usually get up between 6’30 and 8’00am then start to work at home or in the places where I have ongoing artistic projects. At the moment it is in a museum in Paris.

Evening routine I often continue my artistic work of the day at home; if I don't work I will read a book, or watch a film. It’s also very important for me to keep in touch and meet up with my friends. I enjoy going to exhibitions' private views too.

Started Arts in 2000. After graduating from Fine Arts school, I decided to carry on my creative work. It was during my artist residencies in Germany and France that I realised that I really wanted to work as an artist and create installations in situ.

Work space I can't say that I have a real specific work place as I work in situ (every place - being a museum, a company or else - I work in collaboration with becomes my art studio. Every place I go to can become my "work space" in which I will think, create and make. I spend a lot of time visiting places I don't know; they usually become the start of a new project.

On the wall I have some photographs' sketches for my next exhibition in paris, and some artworks from different artists. Next to my desk, I have 2 photographs which are part of a project made in collaboration with a psychiatric hospital in 2006.

Childhood ambition As a child I spend my whole time drawing on my bedroom walls with chalks (once I even used my bedroom carpet as a new support!)... I think I always wanted to be an artist.

Collections I have a collection of photographs, drawings and sculptures from different artists of whom I like the work (such as David Shrigley, Philippe de Gobert, Etienne Pressager, Guillaume Constantin etc). I have also started a collection of Art students' works.
