Hung Drawn and printed Hung Drawn and printed was an exhibition featuring the work of four artists from the North East region, who primarily work in the mediums of Drawing and Printmaking. These two vital disciplines compliment each other in this show, providing an opportunity to examine the dialogues of association and contrast between these two creative processes, which are fundamental to the issue of contemporary 2 dimensional art making. Hung Drawn and printed is the Fourth exhibition in a successful programme of creative shows and events, which have helped develop The Python Gallery as an important cultural feature for the Tees Valley.
From 16th October to 9th November 2007 The third exhibition in a successful programme of creative shows and events, which have helped develop the gallery as an important cultural feature for the Tees Valley. In August 2006 the transformation of Redcar seafront into a 1940 Dunkirk beach attracted a large amount of attention and National media coverage. Pam Ainsley, a renowned and UK award winning photographer living in the area chose the unfolding events of the filming to be the subject for a photographic project. The resulting images beautifully capture the process of recreating the period for the film and the involvement of the many local extras who took part. This work magnificently documents the involvement of the local extras and of the creation of the beach scenes for the film. Along with the photographs, Pam will also be promoting her lavish book: ‘Filming of Atonement'. The book is available from the gallery priced £49.95. For all enquiries please contact the gallery curator.
'Dozen: Fresh From the Oven' The Python Gallery was pleased to be hosting the MA Design exhibition in association with the University of Teesside. An eclectic mix of work spanning varied disciplines, ‘Dozen’ is the culmination of an intense period of work for the twelve students of this course. Featuring examples of spatial design, product design, graphic design, marketing, fine art and installation. Although the techniques may be diverse, the commitment and professionalism of each exhibitor is testament to the application of each Master’s graduate within their chosen field. The Python Gallery wishes them all the very best in the pursuit and development of their careers.
"Many thanks to you and the effort of your team, and of course the achievements of the graduates, myself and my partner enjoyed last nights ‘Dozen’ launch. The behavioural aids using the teddy character was so well done – I understand from chatting to other guests that this work impressed many people, and Kal’s large canvasses which were impressive in their execution and impact, the first two in particular capturing two very different emotional conditions. Kind regards, and again many thanks." Brett Kelly
‘Elements versus Location’ The exhibition ‘Elements versus Location’ was a dynamic overview of 22 Artists whose creative practice is situated within the Northeast. It formed an exciting opportunity to see a wide range of artistic disciplines from a broad spectrum of art makers many of whom will be featured together for the first time. By bringing together two already celebrated shows, the exhibition focused on the individual strengths of each participant while also developing the group as a representative cross section of just some of the striking talent living and working across the region. The Exhibiting artists were: Ally Best
